The 2015 MTV Video Music Awards was one of the most chaotic yet entertaining award shows that MTV has premiered. The 32nd annual MTV VMAs was held at the Microsoft Theatre in Los Angeles, California on August 30th. This year’s host was none other than Miley Cyrus, who captivated everyone with her quirky wardrobe changes and loud personality. A great number of artists from the mainstream spectrum of music all gathered together to enjoy the year’s top music.
After several less than friendly exchanges on Twitter, Taylor Swift and Nicki Minaj settled the ongoing animosity between the two by opening the night and performing their top tracks “The Night Is Still Young” and “Bad Blood”. Both Swift and Minaj hugged it out and shared genuine grins to prove that there is seriously no bad blood between these two powerful artists.
Taylor Swift then continued to surprise the crowd as she debuted the music video to her track “Wildest Dreams”. The video, set in the mid-20th century, showcased the mesmerizing landscapes of Africa and its wildlife. Not only was the video visually appealing, but Swift also declared that all proceeds to her latest music video will be donated to wild animal conservation through the African Parks Foundation of America.
#KanyeForPresident? This hashtag soared through Twitter as Kanye West’s 13-minute speech shocked everyone viewing the VMAs. The rap star collected the Video Vanguard Award from Taylor Swift who obviously couldn’t resist poking a little fun at her infamous run in with Kanye at the 2009 VMAs.
The pop singer’s best words for Kanye were: “I’m really happy for you and Imma let you finish, but Kanye West has had one of the greatest careers of all time!” Kanye then gave his extremely emotional and rambling acceptance speech in which he apologized to the people he’s burned, criticized award shows, admitted doing drugs earlier that day and announced his plans to run for presidency in 2020. Social media exploded over this news with the reactions everywhere from light-hearted support to outrage.
Another notable moment included Justin Bieber’s rise to rebuild his career. After almost being sentenced to jail time and several accusations of drug abuse, Bieber showed that he was ready to take his career to a different level.
The Canadian born singer performed his hits “Where Are U Now” and his latest single “What Do You Mean?” Justin flaunted his slick dance moves and literally flew in the air for a good couple of seconds. The pop star, overwhelmed with emotions, let out a few tears. Second chances don’t come often, but Justin’s showing that he’s taking the right path to stardom.
This year’s MTV VMAs could not have been any better; the surprises and shocks all created one spectacular night that most probably would not forget. The performance lineup, music, and fashion was all a trifecta for a night of extreme craziness. We’re all very certain that the 2016 VMAs will create even more havoc and perhaps more grandiose presidential announcements to come as well.
