The Upper Fraser Valley Track and Field Championships were held May 3rd and 4th at the Rotary Stadium in Abbotsford. Weather was decent Wednesday evening, but Gators were extremely lucky with sunshine on Thursday! There were definitely some burns from the heat…. and the track!
Proud to say, many gators qualified and are heading onto Fraser Valley Championships happening May 15th,16th and 18th. Huge congratulations to grade 8 boy, David Midgley, for breaking the school 100m record in his division and winning the grade 8 boys aggregate award at the meet!
The gators represented Walnut Grove Secondary amazingly through their performances and the deafening sound of cheering – awesome team spirit! Carrying on the legacy, WGSS was the only school that almost all their athletes stay until the very end. The track and field team walked away beaming with two trophies. They won the overall top junior team trophy. The second trophy- overall top grade 8 team – was won by our grade 8s by just 5 points! Ironically, this was because the only grade 8 girls 4x400m team came 4th scoring… you guessed it… 5 points!!
Such an incredible turnout! WAY TO GO GATORS!
Good luck at the Fraser Valley Championships!
