A Summer of Entertainment

The summer of ’19 was packed with many unforgettable movies and events! Although fall is taking over, that does not stop us from reminiscing about how we passed our break from school. Below are some of the iconic movies and adventurous events we found that made this summer a memorable one for the books.

What’s an eventful summer without some amazing movies? Here is our list of the top 5 movies of summer 2019!

Spiderman: Far From Home

The 23rd edition to the MCU films, this next chapter in Peter Parker’s life picks up right after Avengers: Endgame. It is in this movie that Peter struggles with the loss of his mentor, Tony Stark, and goes on vacation to escape the heavy burden left on his shoulders. One of the most action-packed films of the summer, this movie is the first Spiderman film to ever surpass one billion dollars at the box office!

 Toy Story 4

The heart-warming animation series that we have all grown to love and enjoy has come to a close as the toys we know set off on one last adventure! Some tears were spilled, and hearts were filled by the end of this Pixar-film, making us wish once again for toys just like Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Definitely a nostalgic movie that took its audiences down memory lane.

Hobbs and Shaw

A fun little spin-off of the explosive Fast and Furious series, Hobbs and Shaw, rivals who are known for great chemistry in the Fast and Furious series, are once again put in a situation where they must learn to work together, despite their differences. In their own solo movie, these two characters bring blood-pumping action and hysterical laughs to the big screen.

The Lion King

Yet another live-action remake of a Disney classic, The Lion King 2019 forced audiences around the world to fall in love with their story once again. Using the wonders of CGI, Disney engages its fans with its life-like characters, such as Simba, Nala, Timon, and Pumbaa, the beauty of the savannah, and all the songs we know and love. Yet, another nostalgic film from the summer of 2019.

Those were only some of the memorable movies of this summer. However, there were other experiences and events this summer that made the break even more amazing.

FVDED in the Park

One of the most popular music festivals of the summer, this event is something many don’t want to miss out on! With performers such as Khalid, Zedd and French Montana, this festival never fails to bring out a huge crowd.

Richmond Night Market

This market has become increasingly popular over the last few years. Packed with people every night, this was definitely one of the most well-known events during the summer.  Filled with a diversity of delicious foods and desserts, accessory shops, games and many more, we would not mind spending all of our savings on this occasion!

Chilliwack Sunflower Festival

Many visited the Chilliwack Sunflower Festival this summer, which has more than five acres of sunflowers in bloom! This is a great place to take pictures “for the gram”.

Women’s Tennis

This summer, a historical moment has been made for Canada. 19-year-old Bianca Andreescu from Mississauga, Ont, won in a statement match against Serena Williams 6-3, 7-5 to become the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title, one of the best Canadian sports stories of the year.

With many of us still reminiscing over what we did during the break, it’s been a memorable summer. However, school is now in session and fall weather calls for hot drinks, warm clothing and staying home to relax. Let’s hope the rest of the year is just as unforgettable as the summer of 2019!
