Another Hard Fought Win for Senior Boys’ Basketball Team

Whether in a movie or real life, the senior boys’ basketball team is one of the most popular topics among students and teachers in high school. This is no different at WGSS and for good reason; our senior boys’ team is one of the top teams in the province. When the boys have a game you can guarantee that most of the school will show up, and it makes no difference if it is during or after school.

On Friday, January 22, the senior boys played an intense game against Oak Bay during blocks 1-4 and 1-3 to a huge crowd of students, staff and parents. It was probably one of the most talked about subjects that day and students that didn’t have a gym class during that block were aching to go and watch.

The game started off intensely with the first point going to Oak Bay off of a foul shot. However, the Gators responded quickly with a breakaway lay-up which kept the game interesting. By the end of the first quarter the Gators were leading with a nail-biting score of 15-14. However, it was during the last quarter that everyone was feeling the pressure. With only two minutes remaining the Gators were trailing 74-72. But, in the last minutes of the match they pulled through with an astounding foul-shot shooting which led them to win the game 79-76.

So whether you were at the game cheering or in a class yearning to go and watch, the senior boys’ team is heading to the top and you don’t want to miss it!
