Handball Intramurals

The famous WGSS Handball Intramurals are back and better than ever. This year starting in November, the Intramurals will kick off on the 5th and will take place during lunch.

What is handball some people might ask? Well, handball is a team sport in which two teams (several players and a goalkeeper per team) pass a ball solely with their hands, with the objective of throwing it into the goal of the opposing team. The winning team is the one with the most goals. However, this game has several specific rules that make its gameplay unique. First of all, after receiving the ball, players can only pass, keep possession or shoot the ball. They can only take up to three steps and a short amount of time (usually 3 seconds) in possession of the ball before the possession gets transferred to the other team. Also, hands can be used to throw the ball, but cannot be used to attack or defend against other players, meaning that you have to be really strategic about how you prevent the ball from reaching your goal and into the goal of the team!

It is an extremely fast-paced, physical game that people can easily pick up! It is open to all students, with a senior division made for grades 10, 11 and 12 and a junior division for grade 8 and 9.

There is still time for teams to be made, as you can still sign up your team in the PE hall outside of room 127 all this week; and even better, it’s free to sign your team up! Your team can be composed of any range of players within the grades outlined for the division, and can have up to ten members!

Go to the bulletin board outside of room 127 or the PE office for more info.
