Senior Boys Volleyball Team Finishes Top 15 in The Province

WGSSJordan Jacobs, Sports Writer

This week Walnut Grove’s only volleyball team still left in the competition played at the Big Kahuna Volleyball Provincials held at the Langley Events Centre. The tournament started on Wednesday December 2nd and finished Saturday, December 5th. The senior boys’ volleyball team were seeded at the top spot in their pool after winning the Fraser Valley Championships. However, with five pools in the AAA division the team had to work hard against the competition but also together; Coach Gary Lutes wanted his team to play to the best of their abilities and not just compete as individuals but as a team. There was no senior boys volleyball team last year hence, the players are mostly grade 11’s making a young senior team. Even some of the grade 12’s who are on the team have not played for almost two years! Also, the team was composed of a lot of multi-sport athletes; all the same Walnut Grove played well against many teams who had solely volleyball focused players. The senior boys finished 11th in the province after losing a tough game to Surrey Christian on Friday. Nonetheless, this tightly knit group of boys had a great season and was backed up by the support of great parents, coaches and the entire gator nation.dominate

“When the championship is over I want [the team] to have no regrets, [and to have] enjoyed the experience of competing at a provincial championship” Gary Lutes
