The Most Anticipated Movies of 2019

Will the Avengers recover from the mass destruction wrought by Thanos in Infinity War and be able to defeat him? Many are wondering about this question, eager for the movie, Avengers: Endgame, as well as many others that are to come in the Spring of 2019. While 2018 was a solid year for memorable movies, this year is packed with movies that many have been waiting for, most of which are long-anticipated sequels, prequels, reboots and remakes. Below is a list of some of the most anticipated movies of 2019:

Happy Death Day 2U

Starring: Jessica Rothe, Israel Broussard, Ruby Modine, Suraj Sharma, Sarah Yarkin
Opening on: February 14, 2019

A sequel to the horror hit Happy Death Day, in which a college student relived the day she was murdered over and over again. Now, she finds herself once again the target of a masked killer.

 

How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World  

Starring: Jay Baruchel, America Fererra, Cate Blanchett, Kit Harington, Kristen Wiig
Opening on: February 22, 2019

Having received 99% on Rotten Tomatoes, this is definitely one of the most anticipated movies of 2019.  In the sequel, Hiccup and Toothless find themselves at the center of a battle to protect Berk from a power-hungry warrior named Drago.

Captain Marvel 

Starring: Brie Larson, Lee Pace, Samuel L. Jackson
Opening on: March 8, 2019

 

Captain Marvel gets caught in the middle of a galactic war between two alien races.

 

 

Avengers: Endgame
Starring: Everybody!
Opening on: April 26, 2019

Adrift in space with no food or water, Tony Stark sends a message to Pepper Potts as his oxygen supply starts to dwindle. Meanwhile, the remaining Avengers – Thor, Black Widow, Captain America and Bruce Banner – must figure out a way to bring back their vanquished allies for an epic showdown with Thanos.

Pokémon Detective Pikachu 
Starring: Ryan Reynolds, Justice Smith, Suki Waterhouse
Opening on: May 10, 2019

A live-action/animation hybrid film based on the video game, Pokémon, featuring Ryan Reynolds as the voice of Pikachu. A young man joins forces with Detective Pikachu to unravel the mystery behind his father’s disappearance.

 

Toy Story 4 
Starring: Tom Hanks, Tim Allen, Annie Potts, Laurie Metcalf
Opening on: June 21, 2019

Toy Story 4 is an upcoming American 3D computer-animated comedy film, and the third sequel to Toy Story, which had received a high Rotten Tomato score.

Spider-Man: Far From Home
Starring: Tom Holland, Zendaya, Jake Gyllenhaal, Marisa Tomei, Michael Keaton
Opening on: July 5, 2019

Peter Parker’s relaxing European vacation takes an unexpected turn when Nick Fury suddenly shows up in his hotel room. Parker soon finds himself donning the Spider-Man suit to help Fury stop the evil Mysterio from wreaking havoc across the continent.

 

The Lion King  
Starring: Donald Glover, Beyoncé Knowles, Seth Rogen, Chiwetel Ejiofor, James Earl Jones, Alfre Woodard
Opening on: July 19, 2019

Disney’s upcoming re-imagining of the 1994 Disney classic, The Lion King is one of the most anticipated movies of 2019, with audiences waiting since last year to watch this live-action film.

Kingsman 3 
Starring: Taron Egerton, Colin Firth
Opening on: November 8, 2019

A young World War I hero trains to become an elite secret agent for the Kingsman. We don’t know much else about this film, except that, according to Matthew Vaughn, the director, it will bring a conclusion to the relationship between Egerton and Firth’s characters.

 

Frozen 2 
Starring: Kristen Bell, Idina Menzel, Josh Gad
Opening on: November 22, 2019

The first movie, Frozen, was an immediate hit, becoming a topic that many would talk about for years onwards. Even today, there are many who still love this movie. In the sequel, Elsa, Anna, Kristoff and Olaf are going far in the forest to know the truth about an ancient mystery of their kingdom.

 

Star Wars: Episode IX 
Starring: Daisy Ridley, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, John Boyega, Lupita Nyong’o
Opening on: December 20, 2019

This film will be the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following The Force Awakens and The Last Jedi, and the final installment of the main Star Wars film franchise.
