WGSS’ “One Season” Dinner Service – The VCC Program

Katrin Usison and Shannon Morrisey

From WGSS’ Grab n’ Go Breakfast Program to the cafeteria at lunch, the school has stellar food. Now our school has a dinner service too! The restaurant, One Season, will be open for dinner every TuesdayWednesday, and Thursday from 5:30 to 6:30 pm until May 18th. They have a new menu each week and are open to the public. Everyone is encouraged to join!

This evening dinner service is provided by the students of the VCC Professional Cook Training Program. This culinary arts program is based in Downtown Vancouver, but is offered to the students here at Walnut Grove Secondary. It’s a part of the curriculum for this course to carry out a lunch as well as a dinner service, but because the VCC program is only in Langley at night, they carry out a dinner service instead. They are taught by a professional cook, Ms.Dawe, who works for the Vancouver Community College. This course is a college course taken by students in grades 11 and 12.

“We get a lot of great opportunities that not a lot of high school students have, and I’m really glad I took part in it.” – Graduating Student in the VCC Program

The students in this program are able to graduate with dual credits (high school and post-secondary credits), as well as seven months of a college course done. Class time for the students is from 2:30pm to 7:30pm, MondayThursday.

The reasonably priced, but delicious meals have a wide selection. Last week’s menu included: Chicken Cordon Blue, a Coconut Curry Butternut Puree Soup, Green Beans Almandine, Chocolate Mousse, and even more options!
